Is Cleaning & Staining Your Wood Deck Right for You?

Cleaning & staining is the best option for newer wood decks that are in good shape but haven’t been stained yet. If this is you … you’re in luck!

NEW (Haven’t Started It Yet)

Your Best Option is Pre-Staining

Pre-Stain for wood decks is only available to brand new wood projects (before installation). This is due to the fact that each board is fully submerged in the stain, then expertly dried in a climate-controlled environment for maximum quality control and the ultimate protection for your wood deck.

Pre-staining is the perfect solution for protecting your wood deck and other outdoor wood features.

Staining and Sealing for wood decks is a great choice for Nashville area homeowners and businesses.

Key Benefits of Cleaning and Staining

Without a quality sealant applied at proper intervals, the life of any natural wood product is greatly compromised. Our team at Stain and Seal Experts has over 100 combined years of cleaning and staining experience for wood decks. Our talented crews have been factory-trained and certified! We make sure to go over and above for every project to ensure your complete satisfaction.

Cleaned and Stained Decks Look Better

There are amazing benefits to staining and sealing your deck, but the truth is that the #1 reason people are usually interested in cleaning and staining their deck is because it simply looks better!

Protect Your Decks From Damage

After cleaning, our stain and seal service protects your deck from twisting and warping by keeping your wood healthy with our conditioning oils that penetrate down to the very center of the wood. Healthy protected wood resists twisting and warping problems that are common with unprotected wood decks.

Your Deck Will Last Longer

Let’s face it, wood decks take a beating from the sun and from weather. It’s no wonder that older decks can age so fast and begin to break down in just a couple of years. We clean your deck to look like new, then we execute our staining and sealing service which protects your deck from UV damage and water damage caused by the weather. This will extend the life of your deck for many years – saving you money in the long run, while looking great the entire time!

Why Our Way Is Better

Stain and Seal Experts is proud to be 100% dedicated to the cleaning, care and restoration of outdoor wood! We have established ourselves as a leader in the industry with our wood care and cleaning processes, as well as in the creation of our industry-leading wood products. When you work with Stain and Seal Experts of Nashville, you are working with true experts.

Our 5-Step process to Cleaning and Staining wood deck is:

Sanding Lumber Stamps and/or Pre-Wet the Wood

Some wood decks we clean still have those ugly lumber stamps showing. If this is the case, we sand them off before we get started with the rest of our process. We pre-wet the wood thoroughly which, surprisingly, we have seen other companies fail to do.

Apply Our Eco-Cleaner

Our Eco-Cleaner is a specially formulated eco-friendly chemical cleaner that is designed specifically to clean outdoor wood structures like wood decks. It is much more effective than most cleaners on the market without damaging the wood (like bleach or other toxic chemical cleaners can).

Thorough Rinsing

Our eco-cleaners cleans deep into the wood, literally lifting stains out. Dirt, mold, debris is all rinsed away thoroughly in this step. Note that some companies use a powerwasher to blast debris off of your deck. This damages the wood and causes that “fuzzy” effect you may have seen in the surface of the wood.

Apply a Brightener

Our wood brightener restores the wood to its natural, original color. If your deck is Cedar, then it will go to a pinkish color. Pine decks will return to a natural yellow hue.

Our wood brightener also opens up the wood grain and balances the pH levels of your wood. This allows the wood to absorb more stain – so your deck holds onto the color better while securing the maximum protection from our sealer.

Why is that different? Why is that better? Because it’s the right way to do it according to industry standards, according to the U.S. Forest Products Lab and according to our own research.

Question? Look Here.

Why should I stain and seal my fence, deck, or outdoor structure?

Staining and sealing protects your wood from sun, rain, mold, and mildew—extending its life and keeping it beautiful for years. It’s an investment in both function and curb appeal, helping you avoid costly repairs down the road.

How long does the stain last?

Depending on the type of stain and the exposure to elements, our professional-grade stains typically last 2–6 years. We’ll recommend the right product and schedule for your specific wood type, sun exposure, and lifestyle.

Can I stain old or weathered wood?

Yes! In fact, we specialize in restoring aged wood. Our process includes cleaning, prep, and conditioning to bring old surfaces back to life before staining and sealing.

Do I need to clean my wood before staining?

Absolutely. Proper cleaning and prep are essential for a long-lasting finish. We take care of this for you with a thorough wash and inspection process before applying stain.

What kind of stain do you use?

We use EXPERT® Professional Wood Care stain—our own proprietary, contractor-trusted formula. It’s oil-based, deeply penetrating, and available in transparent, semi-transparent, semi-solid, and solid finishes.

How long does the process take?

Most residential projects take 1–3 days depending on size, weather, and drying time. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we start and keep you updated every step of the way.

Is your stain safe for pets, kids, and plants?

Yes. Our stains are designed to be eco-conscious with low VOCs. Once dry, they are completely safe for your family and outdoor environment.

Can I stain pre-treated wood?

Yes—but timing matters. We recommend waiting 4–6 weeks after installation to allow treated wood to dry fully before staining. We can test moisture levels to ensure the perfect application window.
