We know you have tons of questions, it’s common…

In addition to increasing the curb appeal of your home, our stain and seal program is actually a super wise investment that will save you money in the long run by increasing the life of your fence practically indefinitely. By staining your fence or deck with our quality stain and seal products you are protecting your investment from the harsh Tennessee environment, oxidization, U.V. rays, mold and mildew growth, while virtually eliminating all chances of warping as your fence ages. Sounds like a no-brainer to me!

Lumber manufacturers recommend treated lumber be stained after 2 to 3 days of dry weather, but that is just too soon. We recommend waiting 2 to 3 weeks of dry weather before staining your new fence or deck but longer will not hurt. After about 6 months your fence and deck will start to turn gray if not treated.

The finished result WILL NOT vary between 34 and 110 degrees, this makes staining in the Southeast possible almost every week of the year. As long as the core of the wood is not frozen or wet you will get a perfect job every time.

All of Stain and Seal Experts Proprietary stains have a 2 to 3 year warranty period depending on the product. Our warranties are created with both the contractor and homeowner in mind.  We feel that most coatings fail due to improper application and lack of maintenance.  Our warranty requires a cleaning and maintenance coat of stain applied at the halfway mark in order to maintain your warranty. We feel that anyone willing to do the maintenance long term is also more likely to properly apply the stain upfront.  At Stain and Seal Experts we also offer a full line of training courses for contractors to learn proper application and prep.  In our Tennessee climate our Semi-Solid Oil Based Stains generally hold up between 4 to 5 years, and our Semi-Transparent Stains between 2 to 4 years. By setting up a maintenance program with Stain & Seal Experts we can increase the life of your fence, deck, or pergola indefinitely!

Cedar boards are generally not treated at all but pressure treated pine lumber is. The truth is that the treated lumber of today is simply not what it used to be. We are seeing record numbers of lumber that just does not hold up to the elements. Your new treated pine fence or deck WILL turn gray, crack, warp and twist. It is more important now than ever before to preserve your wood. A good oil based stain and seal will stop problems in their tracks and save you money.

Absolutely, the preparation is key. Our professionally trained applicators know exactly how to handle any obstacle that can come up and we have hundreds of happy customers to prove it.

We always recommend stain over painting because our stains have oils specially formulated to penetrate into and protect the wood. Painting does help to protect the wood and looks nice but it is simply not as good as staining. If you have a very large job consisting of several miles of plank fence it is usually cheaper to paint.

Most residential stain and painting projects take us a day or less. Large estates, farms and HOA’s some times have many miles of fence to paint or stain and these jobs can take longer. We can paint about 1 mile of fence per day per crew.

We ask all customers to kindly do a few things before staining day. Please cut all tall grass away from the fence or deck. Make sure all sprinklers are turned off at least 24 hours before staining day. Make sure all pets are put up while we stain. Move any cars, trucks, RVs away from the staining area. Now sit back and let us do all the work.

Yes it does. We will never stain a wet fence due to rain, sleet, heavy fog, or snow. The wood needs a full 24 hours to dry out in most cases. That’s why we always recommend turning your sprinklers off the day before we are scheduled to stain your fence. How long does the stain need to be on my fence or deck before it can get wet? Although we try to schedule jobs so that you get 12 to 24 hours of dry time, the truth is that it can rain 30 minutes after the end of the application with no ill effects. The stain only requires 30 minutes to soak into the wood to be completely sealed and weatherproof. This is backed by and guaranteed from the manufacturer.

Semi Transparent Fence and Deck Stains – Utilizes ultra fine high quality Trans Oxide pigments to highlight and reveal all of the wood grain while adding a ton of beautiful color when staining your fence or deck. Semi- Transparent fence and deck stains are commonly desired on new Pine, Cedar or Redwood fencing or decking because it really highlights the beauty of the wood and even though there is lots of color the wood still retains a very natural look.  Our Semi Transparent Fence and Deck Stains are backed by a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty.  Semi Solid Fence Stains-  Utilize an insane amount opaque pigmentation, these colors give the ability to cover up mix matched boards or anything that is just plain ugly while still retaining some of the natural wood grain look.  Semi Solids also come in some pretty cool colors, so you can be very creative with this line of stains.  These stains give a very uniform appearance and last longer than semi transparent stains.  Our Semi Solid Fence Stain and Sealers are backed by a 3 year manufacturers warranty.

All of Stain & Seal Experts fence stains and deck stains are specially formulated to do both the staining and the waterproofing all in one application!  Our stains are rain safe within minutes of application!

Yes, we can put your fence on life support. Your fence, deck, or pergola can be cleaned and restored to it’s natural wood color. This process will remove all of the built up mildew and mold growth and allow us to stain the wood as if it were new. Some people use power/pressure washers to achieve this, but we prefer to carefully apply our professional line of chemical cleaners for the cleaning of all aged structures.  Our cleaners and brighteners are far less abrasive and allows us to get a better end result after the staining is complete. We have also found that using power/pressure washers at 2700-3500 psi significantly damages the wood by raising the grain, leaving streaks in the wood, and causes the structure to have pulp on the exterior that leaves an undesirable finish. This high pressure also pumps moisture into the pores which is the source of mold and mildew growth causing further damage.   We do use a pressure washer with soft wash tips to gently rinse all cleaners off the wood.  The proper cleaning and preparation of the woods surface is a crucial step in obtaining the desired look after the staining has been completed.

No, Stain & Seal Experts Fence and Deck Stains go on easy and do not require back brushing on vertical surfaces. When the surface of the fence is saturated the stain will penetrate into the lumber and provide a uniform finish. When it comes to flat or horizontal surfaces like decking we recommend back brushing or back rolling all flat areas for the perfect finish .  The biggest advantage to our stains is that because we do not add solvent thinners to our formula our stains are the easiest in the business to clean up and it will wipe right off most non porous surfaces.
